bullroarer
Tanami desert, western Australia
19th / 20th cent.
appr. 32 inch, with base
hardwood, ocre
Euro 1.800
This is a very interesting designed bullroarer from the Tanami desert (border region of western Australia towards the northern territory). The design is both archaic and elegant and is deeply carved into a dense hardwood. Both sides are decorated and optically divided in 2 halfes. Recalling the dreamtime motifes this is a very unusual and rare example.
