Groote Eylandt (big island in the Dutch language) was named by the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman in 1644. On the island is one of the biggest single manganese deposit worldwide (appr. 10 % of the worldwide needed manganese is coming from there). Because of this particular mineral the dominant color in all paintings is black/blue. Paintings from this region are very rare.
